Challenge:

With a very aggressive project timeline, starting in early 2010, eBay wanted to deliver a new fashion buyer experience in both the UK and Germany. The eBay Fashion team needed an injection of experienced product management to take a lead in developing and delivering the consumer proposition and engaging a multi-disciplined team to deliver the project on-time.

Approach:

The three-month project timeline called for a rapid immersion in the business, with the Digital Works consultant having to quickly understand the way in which the business operated, the technology employed, and get to know various pan-European teams that operate the business; and ultimately distil that understanding down to what and who needed to be involved to deliver the intended results.

They did this by being very clear about what the end product needed to look like, engaging and getting buy-in from the right people from across the business to help deliver the initiative and involving marketing operations, technology development teams where necessary.

With just a top-level project brief, [DWC] capably identified and prioritised the right problems to solve, designed implementable solutions and managed virtual teams to deliver on time and to budget.

Results:

Not only did the team deliver the new fashion buyer experience on time but they also introduced some neat innovations including new dynamic merchandising placements (seen for the first time on an eBay site).
