Royal Mail

Challenge:
Faced with a rapidly declining core business due to the impact of digital communications, the Royal Mail initiated a wide-ranging review to investigate new areas of innovation and revenue.
Approach:
Digital Works Consulting was engaged to assist the Royal Mail review the potential opportunities which could be realised through 'data'. With a three month deadline, this required the Digital Works Consulting consultant to quickly understand all aspects of the Royal Mail business, while creating a mechanism to look at and explain the 'data service value chain', the likely growth of such services in the UK market, and any hurdles concerning legislation, sentiment, etc. that there may be for Royal Mail in pursuing this course.
Head of Strategy & innovation, Royal Mail
Results:
By combining both factors, this allowed a clear prioritisation of the potential opportunities, allowing the Royal Mail to discard those that were too small, unsuited to their assets or too distant, allowing an efficient focus of business case effort and investment on the residual opportunities – a core requirement of the project. The Royal Mail has subsequently employed Digital Works Consulting to assist in other projects and activities.
