Wordtracker is a market leader in the niche provision of keyword research and link building optimisation tools aimed at the worldwide search engine optimisation and marketing community. They are a highly successful second stage business, looking to remain competitive and grow revenues.

Challenge:

Faced with a highly competitive market, but with a core team focused on technical deployment, Wordtracker required fast fix commerce expertise in the form of an interim Chief Commerce Officer.

Someone who could help them focus on the right market segments, build out the underpinning commercial model & pricing to maximise return, prioritise development activity correctly according to the core commercial needs, and assist in acquiring additional internet data sources so critical to their product offerings.

Approach:

The Digital Works consultant who took up the challenge needed to quickly understand Worktracker, its markets, customers, and supplier environments. By quickly gaining credibility with the senior management team through knowledge, expertise and a close working style, an agreed and targeted plan was put in place to address the core issues facing the business at all levels.

…an excellent help to Wordtracker in both a negotiating and business strategy capacity… exceeded expectation in both roles.

CEO, Wordtracker

Results:

By a combination of hard and soft skills, calling on the contacts and skills of the full Digital Works Consulting team, and following and flexing the commercial plan, the approach was successfully executed over a number of months.

The consultant was able to attain new sources of internet data from leading US and UK ISPs on the right commercial terms. And, in addition, grow Wordtracker's revenues through the acquisition of additional customers in new market segments, and by reducing churn amongst existing customers through the deployment of new product features and by placing them on recurring subscription pricing plans. All of which was ultimately handed over to the now commercially-aware management team.
